MATILDA'S POLKA DOT NURSERY ROOM TOUR.

You are my sunshine nursery
Hey Guys, today I want to take you on the next installment of our home tour.  Today - its Matilda's polka dot nursery. I had wanted to use these Look Sugar Polka Dot Decals for such a long time and given we are only here in this house for 9 months it was the perfect time to throw caution to the wind and try something that wouldn't be too hard to change.  As soon as the decals went up the room instantly went up in the bright and fun stakes.  Since we were already going down the road of bright and fun I thought I'd take it up a notch.  We brought over from home a fern wood pom pom garland.  Aaron had bought it for Matilda the day before I was in labour and, fun fact, Aaron and I were putting it up above her bassinet in our old Sydney home while I was in labour.  I was doubled over on the bed saying to Aaron 'a little to the left' while he was frantically trying to put it up and then get us to the hospital. Haha!

Anyway I digress!  So the awesome pom pom garland was full of bright and fun colours so I knew that was a perfect jumping off point for the rest of the room - I brought in some more colourful pieces - Room 365 Hot Air Balloon Polka Dot Sheets, a Mudhut Tashkent Changing Pad Cover and an awesome Mostaza Circus Bear Print from Society 6. The last piece I used to pull everything together was a linen banner I made saying "You Are My Sunshine" It was my nanas favourite song and after she lost the ability to speak from a stroke she use to hum it to us all the time.  I sang it to Matilda when she was growing in my belly and in her newborn days so its nice to know we've got that connection to my nana because Matilda is indeed my sunshine. Naw!

To balance out the bright and colourful pops all around the room I kept the furniture neutral.  We choose a Gray Sundivick Crib from IKEA and a vintage dresser scored from a consignment store which I painted white.  Our Gulliver Change Table is another white number from IKEA which is accessoried with white baskets galore from World Market. Seating was a must so I picked up a vintage bamboo armchair for a bargain price of $35 and painted that white as well.  I still haven't made a proper cover for the cushion so I'm using a Pottery Barn Stripe Knit Stroller blanket which Aaron got when he visited America while I was still pregnant.  His first daddy present for Matilda :) Although we have carpet in the room I still think rugs can add some extra layers to the room so I choose this beautiful diamond ikat rug in a soft pink from Overstock.com.  Its one of my favourite pieces in the room.

Putting together Matilda's room was one of my favourite projects of this house - when else do you have the chance to go all out?  I love that it is unashamedly girly and fun.  It's a bright and happy space just like the little girl she is:)

  4. I love everything about this! For the banner, did you just attach the felt letters with fabric glue? And did you use a stencil or something to cut them out? They're so perfect! I'm obsessed with this nursery!
